"Mining the Sketchbook no. 3: Flight" mixed media collage with wing 22 x 30 x 1" I finished this piece right after Christmas but had to wait on framing and photography before posting it. Ideas of flight versus freedom or independence have long been in my work. Some of the drawings in this triptych date from 2000 to 2010. My husband found this in-tact birds wing on our property several years ago. I have been saving it for use in the right work and think it is appropriate here. The wing becomes the tangible yet unusable symbol of flight. The birds in the top of the right hand image are freeing the child bound to the ground by the weight of a stone and the heavy handed gloves. The falling bird in the left hand collage overlaps the winged feet. Many metaphors...open for interpretation. www.claremurrayadams.com http://instagram.com/claremurrayadams |
